Everything always starts with our permission. To experience anything in our lives we must first give it permission to come into our experience. So today let us give ourselves permission to be great. Let us give ourselves permission to shine our light regardless of external circumstances. Let us be loving, kind, and generous, and let us allow ourselves to fully and completely express those sacred qualities of Spirit that are at the core of our being—those sacred qualities that are, in fact, who and what we really are. So right now in this moment, acknowledge that you have your own permission to be great. Acknowledge that you have given yourself your authorization to let your Deepest Authentic Self shine today. You will transform your experience in wondrous and magnificent ways.
Thank you Alex. Indeed the only thing stopping me from being ‘great’ is myself. I give myself permission to let my light shine. Thank you for shining your light on me. I have a poem that perhaps goes well with these thoughts … when you shine your light, or I shine mine on myself … I still resist, even though I know that what you say is the truth – I haven’t quite given myself permission to believe in myself. Why on earth not? I do it now … thank you.
Chasing Shadows
When you shine your light upon me
And I let ‘me’ get in the way,
You force out all my shadows
My fears are on display.
I long for you to shine your light
But resist you all the way,
I need to cast out all my shadows,
Then you and me can play.
When I was a child,
I would read all day and night
Shine my torch beneath the blankets
Create shadows with the light.
It was a time of magic,
Weird shapes and mystic forms
I’d cast my light upon myself,
and delight in what was born.
Why now afraid of shadows?
Just illusions of the mind,
Seek truth and understanding,
Find joy and peace of mind.
We are full of light – not darkness
Keep that torch switched on
Whenever you resist it,
Chase those shadows right along.
They’ll slink into the corners
‘til your light scares them away
Keep them running, do not waver
Soon they won’t be back to stay.

I think that’s something that can hold a lot of people back. It’s where we have to “retrain” ourselves, gradually letting go of those lesser ideas and beliefs we’ve held about ourselves, and instead give ourselves permission to see ourselves the way we really are. And the more we focus on the Light, the more the shadows start to fade.
